“Perhaps, the difference between what is miserable, and that, which is spectacular, lies in the leap of faith”- Sushant Singh Rajput. The movie begins with these lines with Sushant Singh Rajput playing his Guitar. It is rare that words weave the same emotions that are inevitably going to be presented. Dil Bechara is poignant, endearing and a true coming of age film set in the quint town of Jamshedpur.

The late Sushant Singh Rajput essayed the role of the larger than live ‘Hero’ Immanuel Rajkumar Junior aka ‘Manny’. He fills each frame with great screen presence and star quality. His performance is soulful, endearing and truly memorable. Sanjana Sanghvi is here to stay! She makes an unforgettable debut as Kizzie Basu, She is natural on-screen and delivers a brilliant first performance. She is impressive as the teenager clinging on to the fragility of thyroid cancer yet willing to be swept away by Manny’s spontaneity. The chemistry they share lights up the screen like the lamps of Diwali. Her parents, Swastika Mukherjee and Saswata Chatterjee bring the Bengali flavour to the screenplay in a nuanced way. The cameo by Saif Ali Khan carries a beautiful slice of life lesson.

The music and background score by the illustrious AR Rahman becomes the soul of the screenplay. The movie is an honest and faithful adaptation of The Fault in our Stars, a novel by John Green (2014). Mukesh Chhabra handled this film beautifully. It is a simple slice of life story that did not require overacting or too many frills and thrills to be special.

You have to live life to the fullest through all the hardships of life regardless of tomorrow’s uncertainties. It is this simple philosophy that becomes the soul of Dil Bechara. You are bound to laugh and smile and cry every time he battles through life and death on screen. Outside the fiction, the present to is eerily similar to a void and emptiness that can only be filled with his memories. It is an emotional roller-coaster that affirms what we already know – There may be a million stars out there but Sushant Singh Rajput shines brightest of all.
