Nostalgia! Jagjit Singh revisited in ‘Teri Fariyad’ – Tum Bin 2

Teri Fariyad is the latest song from Anubhav Sinha’s Tum Bin 2,  The track is a wonderfully reworked version of Jagjit Singh’s widely-admired ghazal Koi Fariyaad, which originally featured in Tum Bin. The enigmatic soulstirring voice of  the late legendary singer Jagjit Singh transports us back to 2001, when Tum  starring Sandali Sinha, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Raqesh Vashisth and Himanshu Malik released. The orignal track is pure magic filled with soul.


Rekha Bhardwaj brings the poetry-like song to life which is a collage of melancholy moments between the characters played by newcomers Neha Sharma, Aditya Seal and Aashim Gulati, each of who form one part of a love triangle.  Tum Bin 2 Director / Producer Anubhav Sinha  told a leading news agency that: “Jagjitji used to tell me ‘Let’s make more songs.’ He would tell me that he could not finish any of his shows without this song. Since it had become so iconic, when we are making Tum Bin 2, it was so obvious that we wanted to recreate the song.”

Speaking about the difficulties in recreating the song, Sinha said, “The struggle was the question ‘Will we have the old version of Jagjit ji‘s ghazal preserved with us?’ because we used to record on tapes. Now, we have gone digital… So, we went through the library of T-Series and there we found it.” He also said that with the song, he has tried to change the format of ghazals. We hit upon the idea where we changed the format of ghazals. Normally ghazals have two main lines, and in this version we have two fresh lines and the third line is from the original ghazal, which brings back Jagjit ji into the new version.”

Tum Bin 2 will also feature a song by Dwayne Bravo. Singer Akon will also be reportedly singing a duet with Atif Aslam. Tum Bin 2 has been shot in Scotland and will hit the screens on November 18.
