The IIFA awards 2013
The amazing IIFA Awards held at the magnificent Cotai Arena, Venetian Macau –which was converted into a spectacular atmosphere where the superstars of Indian Cinema graced amazing sets with magical sound and lighting and a roaring crowd in support. Famously-known Bollywood director Anurag Basu’s Barfi! won several awards at the 14th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards this year. The Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer bagged awards for the best film, best director and the best performance in leading role (male) for its hero Ranbir Kapoor as his performance in the film has been highly appreciated as he was not present to receive the award and it was collected by director Anurag Basu who said “I am really missing Ranbir today. This film could not have been made without him,” Basu said, after accepting the award on the actor’s behalf. Vidya Balan bagged the performance in leading role (female) for Kahaani. The Star Plus audience ‘jodi’ of the year was won by Deepika Padukone and Ranbir for their latest starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. the best performance in supporting role (male) was won by Anu Kapoor for his film, Vicky Donor while Anushka Sharma won the best performance in supporting role (female) for her Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The outstanding achievement by an Indian in international cinema award was won by Anupam Kher and the unstoppable contribution to Indian cinema award bagged by Javed Akhtar. The best debut (female) award was bagged by Yami Gautam whereas the best debut (male) award was given to Ayushmann Khuranna. The award ceremony was attended by the élite of the industry, comprising of Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Sidharth Roy Kapur, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Neha Dhupia, Huma Qureshi, Boman Irani who assisted Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor in hosting this prestigious award ceremony by adding its much desired humour and fun to the night.
Abhishek Bachchan kicked of the celebration with a fast paced lively dance number in which he soared through the green carpet and audiences. Ayushmann Khurana together with Parineeti Chopra performed a classically beautiful love duet consisting of hit songs such as Pareshaan , Tum Hi Ho , Pani Da Rung and Raanjhaana. The gorgeous Deepika Padukone blew the roof off the Cotai Arena in her powerhouse heart racing performance in an amazing modern dance piece with hits from all her contemporary hits namely Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Cocktail. Prabhudeva and Sridevi were simply amazing in their dance duel which simply made the crowd go crazy – when Sri Devi and husband Boneyji presented Anushka Sharma her award later that evening she was all praise for Sridevi’s smashing ‘Hawa Hawaii’ performance. The grand finale was left in the hands of Bollywood’s finest performers – the spectacularly gracious Madhuri Dixit who started off with her hits from the earlier movies of her career then surprised audiences with Radha on the Dancefloor and Ghagra!
The IIFA awards 2013 was extremely entertaining and a complete experience that was unforgettable and extremely entertaining for all!
