Hasee Toh Phasee : A cucking frazy rom-com!

With Valentine’s Day in a week `Hasee Tho Phasee` is perfect for young couples in celebration of romance. This is your uncharacteristic feel good rom-com that brings together the handsome Sidharth Malhotra and the bubbling Parineeti Chopra. The film traces the journey of the young, handsome and super cool Nikhil (Sidharth) and Meeta (Parineeti) who bump into at Nikhil’s marriage after a conversation seven years ago. Both the actors have brought-forward remarkable performances. Parineeti owns the movie as a brilliant, bubbly & quirky scientist who has some emotional disorders. Sidharth masters his role as a young businessperson well. What is refreshing is that the hero is not perfect! He has financial problems and he is trying to find his feet in the business industry, and he isn’t your impeccable son that you expect from your typical Karan Johar’s leading man.  Adah Sharma conveys herself in the most stylish fashion throughout the movie in a supporting role. Sharat Saxena, Neena Kulkarni and Manoj Joshi, in the roles of the parents of Nikhil and Meeta, are perfect.

Vinil Mathew keeps the comedy clean and almost all the moments of laughter are stolen by Parineeti. She doubtless has the best comic timing amongst current day actresses. She reminds you a tad bit of Preity Zinta in `Dil Se`. She looks innocent and some sweet and intelligent dialogues promptly make you take to her in this character. Mathew also makes sure that the movie is not overly dramatic and it just hauls gradually at your heart strings. It does get a tad slow just before the interval. But the story captures the moments nicely enough without over-explaining or making the leads clingy and too mushy. Mathew keeps the modern relationship and the outlooks of the youth in mind.

The dialogues written by Mathew and Anurag Kashyap are both highly intelligent and often make you beam. There are various touching moments in the movie like the time Meeta is adamant to reconnect with her father. Despite the funny way Nikhil goes about trying to make that happen, Parineeti’s expressions will make you feel emotional. The plot lacks pace and could have been half an hour shorter! The music is enjoyable especially the song `Zehanaseeb`, which is truly romantic. `Shake it like Shammi` is a great dance number dedicated to Shammi Kapoor. ‘Punjabi Wedding Song’ is a sungeeth track every Karan Johar film requires. The background score also fits the mood of the movie. The movie is quirky and breaks some true stereotypes. Parineeti`s performance is truly loveable.  It is just a one-time watch and it is a great release during this month of love. You will love this frazy cucking not-so-typical romantic flick! The Bollywood Tempest gives this rocking love story a 8/10.
