The young innovative and superbly talented Director Ayan Mukerji’s after ‘Wake Up Sid’ has yet again won the hearts of all movie lovers, he uses his amazing eye for beautiful direction and a simply loveable story makes ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is a tremendously pleasant watch for audiences of all as its been a while since we saw an enjoyable story of love Karan Johar style!…
Deepika Padukone beautifully narrates the opening dialogues of the beautiful tale in present day and takes us back eight years ago … We are introduced to Bunny who is first seen in a brothel talking to a dancer asking her how many children she has, and within seconds we are introduced to the ‘khet ki mooli’ Madhuri Dixit is introduced to use rendering beautifully well scripted quotes of love which challenged by Bunny … you know what time it is right? … TV pe breaking news haaye mera Ghagra ! in which Madhuri Dixit enthralls audiences with her skill of dance and grace and sheer beauty…
Kabir aka Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) is a young man who craves speed fun and craziness lives a very impromptu life filled with dreams and desires to be free and unconventional. He is sporadically assisted by his father (Farooq Sheikh) and his step-mother (Tanvi Azmi) but he is independent and driven by his dreams . Bunny, along with his best friends Abhi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and his tom boyish rocker chick friend Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) plans a trekking trip to Manali. Naina (Deepika Padukone) a medical student who doesn’t know the meaning of ‘fun’ in the orthodox sense of the term, runs from home and hops on to the train that’s on its way to Manali and meets Kabir on the same train.
The four of them were all class mates but Naina always stood first in class and aimed to always be number one. She lived a conventional life that was suffocating her and she needed a break and felt this trip will bring out her fun side. The trip to Manali turns out to be playful, lovable and most of all FUN where friends were made and un-reciprocal love begin to blossom, once the trip came to an end they all go off to pursue their own dreams.
The movie radically movies eight years later by then several lessons are learnt, many moments are lived and their paths cross again at the marriage celebration of Aditi in which she marries the irony of who she is in the beautiful city of Udaipur where Naina and Bunny meet after years … Will Naina’s love for Bunny remain the same after eight years ? Will Bunny realise that he loves Naina? YJHD is a much watch for all movie lovers and cinema-goers.
Maniknandan’s cinematography justifies a standing ovation and rowdy applauding. He captures Manali and all its natural beauty to perfection and he has a talented eye for cinema in its true sense, the scenes are all beautifully composed and crisp in its texture. A real powerhouse of talent!
Ayan Mukerji’s second endeavour is simple yet sophisticatedly well dressed with splendid concepts and innovative eye and detailed attention. ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is brilliant in its moments and splendid in others like when Bunny and Naina shout from the top of the ‘haunted peak’ merits a pat on the back. The truthful father-son moments between Farooq Sheikh and Ranbir Kapoor melt the heart. The scenario however takes a turn towards being foreseeable but catchy dialogues and emotional bond between the characters make it all worthwhile.
Whatever technical shortcomings there might have been are appropriately out-shined by the vivid cast. Ranbir Kapoor will dazzle you as Bunny while his last at the Box Office release saw him as the deaf and mute ‘Barfi!’ Ranbir makes up for the minutes spent not talking in this one! He is funny, focused, and flirtatious and has come a long way Mukherji’s last film – ‘Wake Up Sid’. He is no longer an actor but he is now an official superstar and the heart throb of many! Deepika Padukone steals the show in her beautifully draped sari’s, lengha’s and even her bespectacled girl next door plays a commendable part as Naina. She skilfully pull off the transformation from the geeky nerdy girl-next-door to the sexy sari-wearing waist-baring woman.she beautifully delivers her dialogues with the perfect amount of grace and charm , especially in the scenes in which she narrated the story and added the charm and elegance to this story with her radiant smile and sexy dance moves ….
Aditya Roy Kapur, after ‘Aashiqui 2’, proves his ability yet again, as Abhi- Aditya performs really well. Kalki Koechlin infuses ample amount of life into her bubbly role as Aditi who transforms from a hippie to a beautiful lady like bride to be. The supporting cast of Farooq Sheikh, Tanvi Azmi, Kunal Roy Kapur, Dolly Ahluwalia all seem well suited to play their roles.
Pritam’s music is catchy, vibrant and melodious. Badtameez Dil and Balam Pichkari are the definite party rockers of the year along with Dilliwaali Girlfriend! Vishal Dadlani and Arijit Singh’s vocals stand out in this album . The graceful Madhuri Dixit charms with her ‘Ghagra’ and leaves folks clapping to her dancing skills yet again in her groovy item number! Both versions of Kabira are a beautifully composed and well suited in its scenarios and works in favour of turning each scene into a memorable one. The music itself is a winner !
‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is no socio-economic flick or epic tale of tragic romance. It is an enjoyable, young, fresh, smart and sophisticated story of LOVE in many spheres and aspects of live, that is wholesome , complete and well directed . It is a movie that is meant to be enjoyed via its entertainment value and it does so , by bring you the typical Karan Johar moments of Glitz and Glamour but yet it does not over power the story-line or turns it into a cliché of some sort. Ayan Mukherji’s film is an entertaining one with a star studded – young generation star cast of actors, amazing locations and beautiful cinematography , vibrant colours and emotions straight from the heart … I give Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani a 10/10 for bringing back the simplicity of love back to Bollywood in a modern and contemporary way! – The most recommended watch so far this year!!! This movie proves that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication when it comes to Bollywood love stories and romance … Go and enjoy this celebration of love the Karan Johar way & Unleash your Badtameez Dil …
