After a sold–out season at the Square Space Theatre in Durban, and having played to great critical acclaim, Consenting Silence: Shanti Manjur, returns to the festive season theatre offerings by popular demand! Written by Verne Munsamy and Choreographed by Sashin Kandhai this power packed show returns after rave reviews, for a second season to the Peter Scholtz Open Air Theatre at UKZN. Consenting Silence is geared to enthrall you with the same beautifully moving storyline but re-captivate you with fresh, furious dance routines that will bring you leaping to your feet. We offer you ‘bigger and better’!
Blanketed by the glorious open- air Durban night sky, this Bollywood epic, the story of Damini, our heroine, in the struggle of all young women against rape and violent abuse. While set in India, the tragic storyline speaks a universal theme and we ask that the struggle against such abuse become a united struggle. We journey through the events of our young heroine Damini’s life struggles; her inner and outer conflict with her father, friends and love. Supported by her ever loving Grandmother, “The love story of Damini and Manish is one painted with shades of youthful love, lust, rivalry, outdated customs and consenting silence. But more than that it ignites a society’s response to foolish follies of our youth and the blossoming friendships that these tragic seeds plant”.
…may we be the change that we wish to see…
