After watching the very contemporary Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan paired in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu in which their onscreen chemistry became memorable. It is only fitting that we get a chance to indulge ourselves yet again. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (GTPM) is a light-hearted rom-com for the entire family. After many weeks of sci-fi, epic tales of Love or true stories and biographies, we are treated to a simple yet fun and loving film with a dash of social work. Punit Malhotra’s GTPM isn’t immaculate but it is incredibly watchable. The Kareena-Imran pairing is one eccentrically whimsical onscreen pair who makes GTPM a wonderful experience. If you thought Ayan Mukherji was Karan Johar’s protégé, Punit Malhotra has upped his rank by evolving into a true competitor.
This time round we are introduced to Sriram (Imran)who is a good for nothing, party animal and a perfect bachelor whose family decides to get him married to Vasudha (Shraddha Kapoor) in order to settle him down. While Vasudha is already in love with the righteous Kamal, she makes Sriram realize his love for ex- girlfriend Dia (Kareena Kapoor). Sriram and Dia broke up on ideological differences as he found her hypocritical and she thought he is self-centred. However, once Sriram grasps that he loves her beyond his egotistic approach in life, he journeys to an obscure village called Jhumli to win back the love of his life. Amidst the love and romance, Sriram discovers the essence of his life in order to win back his Gori, who resides there doing social work.
Imran Khan is rather bland yet has more onscreen presence than Kareena Kapoor yet she makes this film worth a watch. She dances well, looks stunning and acts well. Imran looks good in this rom-com because his pairing with Kareena is a hit factor! Anupam Kher as the collector of the Jhumli village has a short role which he sufficiently justifies. Another gripe is that an actor like Vineet Kumar Singh has not been used properly at all. Shraddha Kapoor had a rather small role in this film yet she makes her mark. The Aashiqui 2 beauty justifies her presence. The stunner , Esha Gupta looks electrifying in her cameo item number across Imran.
Punit Malhotra has shown a marked improvement since his last venture. He has delivered a coming-of-age story. Although I Hate Luv Storys was a simple story, GTPM takes this a level higher that his previous project. This is no Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani yet it is immensely entertaining. Again , I praise Karan Johar and Dharma for choosing to showcase the hidden beauty of India by setting yet another superb love story on homeland. This flicks most positive aspects are the storyline and direction and great editing. The film is funny in parts and keeps you engrossed from start to end. The soundtrack of the film has a suave and romantic feel. The song Naina stands out for its beautifully classical tunes. The songs Chingum and Tooh are already rocking the airwaves and hearts of fans globally. Kareena and Imran are the true embellishments of this film, Punit Malhotra has done a commendable job. The music, tone and theme of the film makes GTPM a great watch for the entire family. The Bollywood Tempest gives Gori Teri Pyaar Mein a 7/10.
