Hey guys! In this #ICYMI feature, we share a glimpse into some of India finest content on Netflix we loved – the list shares a glimpse into both Feature films, Docuseries, Series and Standup specials!

 

A Suitable Boy – Has love always been this difficult? Vikram Seth’s written-world set in 1951 comes to life through Mira Nair’s imagination as Lata (Tanya Maniktala) grapples with just one wish: to choose her own husband. Torn between family & her new romance, Lata embarks on a journey full of love & heartache, as three different men try to win her heart.

 

Bulbbul – A story set in the late 19th Century Bengal, Bulbbul traverses the journey of a young girl from innocence to strength, as the legend of a chudail casts a looming shadow over her world. Bulbbul is a supernatural thriller produced by actor & producer Anushka Sharma & Karnesh Sharma (Clean Slate Filmz) and directed by Anvita Dutt. It’s the haunting tale of a young, innocent bride who grows up to be a strong, mysterious woman presiding over her household. She harbours a painful past as several murders of men plague her village.

 

How far are you willing to go to turn your dreams into a reality? – ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’, starring Janhvi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Ayesha Raza & Manav Vij, is the inspiring true story of a simple girl with big dreams who stood her ground to rule the skies.

 

Ludo – What happens when life is a literal roll of the dice? Ludo is about the butterfly effect and how, despite all the chaos and crowd of the world, all our lives are inextricably connected. Starring an amazing ensemble cast of Abhishek A Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Pearle Maaney, Inayat Verma, Asha Negi and Shalini Vats, Ludo is four different stories tied together by unavoidable circumstances and coincidences far beyond our understanding, all of which make up for a crazy caper of a film.

 

Masaba Masaba – Hot mess or not, if there’s one thing Masaba’s willing to bet on, it’s herself. Catch the real-life mom-daughter duo Neena and Masaba Gupta, play versions of themselves in this playful, fictional peek into their lives in fashion and film, artfully directed by Sonam Nair and produced by Ashvini Yardi (Vineyard Films).

 

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare – Follow the story of two cousins, Dolly (played by Konkona Sen Sharma) and Kajal (played by Bhumi Pednekar), as they navigate through the twists and turns life throws at them in this journey to find their place in the world. Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, this story introduces us to Dolly, a middle-class working woman with a seemingly perfect family and to her cousin Kajal, yet another girl who has come to the city with the dreams of making something of her life.

 

The White Tiger – From acclaimed writer-director, Ramin Bahrani comes the epic journey of a poor Indian driver (Adarsh Gourav) who uses his wit and cunning to break free from servitude to his rich masters (Rajkummar Rao and Priyanka Chopra Jonas) and rise to the top of the heap. The White Tiger is based on the New York Times bestseller and 2008 Man Booker Prize-winning novel written by Aravind Adiga.

 

Ginny Weds Sunny – A little bit of drama, a little bit of romance and a LOT of siyappa!

 

Raat Akeli Hai – The most powerful usually hide the darkest secrets. What happens when a small-town cop is summoned to investigate the case of an extremely powerful local politician? Ghost Stories – Four mind-bending thrillers from the Directors of Lust Stories – Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, and Karan Johar. Starring Janhvi Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Gulshan Devaiah and Mrunal Thakur.

 

Mismatched – College, coding and 60s waala romance: what happens when worlds collide? Rishi is searching for his happily ever after. Dimple dreams of being a tech wizard. Will they succeed in landing their dream project, while dealing with friends, bullies, a snooty professor and… each other? Based on the book “When Dimple met Rishi” by Sandhya Menon, the series follows the journey of college students as they navigate through love, life and friendship. It stars Prajakta Koli, Rohit Saraf, Vihaan Samat, Taaruk Raina, Kritika Bharadwaj, Rannvijay Singha, Muskkaan Jaferi, Devyani Shorey and Abhinav Sharma.

A searing drama about a dysfunctional family consisting of women from three different generations, Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy stars Kajol, Mithila Palkar, Tanvi Azmi, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, Kanwaljit Singh, and directed by Renuka Shahane.

 

What if it was never about what you’re fighting for, but what you’re fighting against? Based on true events, Class of ’83 is the gritty story of a policeman failed by the system. Will Vijay Singh (Bobby Deol) be able to fulfil his purpose or will the fire he ignites burn his own house down?

Kaali Khuhi, directed by Terrie Samundra and starring Shabana Azmi, Leela Samson, Sanjeeda Sheikh, along with Riva Arora as Shivangi, is a must-watch if you like dipping your toes into supernatural stories.
